In which city is the new year now. Places where people celebrate the new year first

When we are still making the last feverish preparations for the New Year, some of the inhabitants of the Earth have not only met it and had fun, but by this time they even had time to rest and sleep. For there are places in the world where the New Year is celebrated much earlier than here. In our photo gallery, we represent the places where the first to celebrate the New Year on our planet.

13 PHOTOS

1. Traditionally, they will be the first to celebrate the New Year 2015 in Kiribati. More specifically, on the Linear Islands, which are located to the east than other islands in this country. In 1994, one of the presidential candidates promised the citizens that if he wins the elections, he will make it so that Kiribati will be the first to celebrate the New Year around the world. He won and kept his word: he moved the demarcation line of time (a conditional line on the map of time zones). Since that time, Kiribati has been divided into three time zones, and in the most eastern of them, midnight comes 14 hours earlier than in London. (Photo: DS355 / flickr.com).
2. Tokelau is located in the same time zone as Kiribati, which includes a group of islands consisting of three coral atolls: Atafu, Nukunono and Fakaofo. It is a dependent territory of New Zealand. The time zone change here happened quite recently, in 2011, and the main reason for this was the problem of interaction in contacts with New Zealand, since the island was previously on the other side of the demarcation time line. 3. An hour later, the Samoans will celebrate the New Year. In 2011, there also was a time zone change, the date of December 30, 2011 was absent in the Samoan calendar. This was done to better interact and develop cooperation with Australia and New Zealand. Interestingly, the previous time zone change was made in 1892 in order to adjust the time to California. 4. At the same time as in Samoa, the people of Tonga, an island located one third of the way between New Zealand and Hawaii, south of Samoa, will celebrate the New Year. (Photo: pintxomoruno / flickr.com).
5. Residents of the Chatham islands will celebrate the New Year next. This small archipelago, which consists of two inhabited islands - Chatham and Pitt. Other small islands have reservation status and are generally inaccessible to both islanders and tourists. Interestingly, Chatham Island has its own time zone, which is 45 minutes (less) than New Zealand. (Photo: Phil Pledger / flickr.com).

7. At the same time as in New Zealand, celebrate the New Year in Fiji. This state, which is located on 322 islands and islets of volcanic origin, surrounded by coral reefs, of which only 110 islands are inhabited. (Photo: brad / flickr.com).
8. The first mainland state whose residents will celebrate the New Year 2015 (along with the residents of New Zealand and Fiji) is Russia, or rather, the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, located in the southeastern part of the Kamchatka volcanic peninsula. (Photo: Jasja / flickr.com).
9. In the same time zone as Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, there are numerous small islands and archipelagos in the Pacific Ocean: Tuvalu, Nauru, Wallis and Futuna, Wake and the Marshall Islands. Photo: Nauru Island. (Photo: Hadi Zaher / flickr.com).
10. We travel further and move west. Next New Year will be celebrated by the inhabitants of New Caledonia - a French overseas territory located in the western part of the Pacific Ocean, in Melanesia, about 1400 kilometers east of Australia and 1500 kilometers north-west of New Zealand. New Year is not just a holiday, it is a noisy fun, which is waiting for the whole year. Children treat him with special trepidation. As a rule, they meet him with the whole family at a beautiful New Year tree, with gifts and fireworks.

Only one island country in the entire world, the Kingdom of Tonga, celebrates the New Year before the rest of the world at 13 o'clock.

In 1870, the Greenwich Standards and the 180th meridian were approved. The time difference began to fluctuate from 1 to 12 hours.

Some countries fell into the zone with a larger time difference. These include N.Zelandia, Fiji, Tonga, +13 hours. Every morning the sun rises there 1 hour earlier. These countries, like Russia, use the transition to winter time, the difference during this period is 12 hours. One single country, the Kingdom of Tonga, does not turn the hands of the clock. Therefore, it became the only state that celebrates the New Year first.

The Tongans begin their celebration with prayer. Throughout the first week of January, they earnestly pray in the morning and in the evening, at lunchtime they gather at the festive table.

Tonga is a tourist's paradise.

The transition of the Saratov region to a different time zone has become a second birth for many Saratov residents. I had to re-learn how to deal with such everyday situations as the time of arrival of trains and the beginning of TV shows, but the main question remained: "How are we going to celebrate the New Year now?" TSR spoke with editors of the Urban Rooms network, who live in cities with an even greater time gap from Moscow.

Alexander Shumeiko, Vladivostok. MSK + 7.

With Moscow, only the most ardent alcoholics celebrate the New Year, because it is already 7 am, when it is 12 in Moscow. By this time everyone is usually asleep. The feelings of people who celebrate the New Year seven hours earlier than Moscow are funny and humorous, they say, Moscow is a year behind, we already have a new one, and there is still the past.

Zhirinovsky is constantly remembered with his proposal to move the capital to Vladivostok, because he is 7 hours ahead of Moscow.

We have two Russian channels, so we first watch the President's address in Kamchatka time (two hours earlier than in Vladivostok), and then our own. Of course, in some areas, such a gap with the capital hinders - for example, communication with relatives or colleagues. We have to find the time.

Kirill Tsvetkov, Novosibirsk. MSK + 4.

There is no tradition in Novosibirsk to celebrate the New Year in Moscow time. Here, in general, few people are guided by the capital; rather, they are dismissing it as if it were a vulture. Therefore, everything is only in local time and only with a local brew. As in all decent cities, which is Novosibirsk, we have our own TV channels with our own Putin. First, the governor congratulates, then the mayor, and then the president.

The difference with Moscow does not mean that we are beginning to shake the city under the squeals of Piggy and the sobs of Stepashka.

And the difference of four hours only disturbs sports fans. The games are late, so you have to get up in the middle of the night and watch the matches. And so time does not play a special role, because it is regulated, based on the geographical features of the region, daylight hours and the length of the night. I have not discovered America now, but it would be foolish to enjoy the pitch darkness at lunchtime.

Alexey Shakhov, Yekaterinburg. MSK + 2.

We celebrate the New Year according to local time and only catch calls and messages from friends from Moscow who ask the banal "well, how is it going to be in the future." Some companies clink glasses for the New Year in the capital, but no more. We watch the President's address at 23:55 local time, all TV channels are adapted to it. The gap does not hinder much: we live our own life here, the city and everything that is in it is adapted to the local time. Television, releases, shows. Perhaps, in some Vladivostok, this is a problem, but two hours for the Urals is a trifle.

Yuri Pechkin, Togliatti. MSK + 1.

We don't have such a big time difference with Moscow. So when it's midnight in the capital, it's already one in the morning. Instead of an address from the president, they watch the address of the governor, and more often than not they simply launch fireworks, clink glasses of champagne and carry out other holiday traditions. At this moment on TV there is some "New Year's light", but this does not bother me too much. I haven't watched TV for about ten years.

An hour later, everyone turns on the president's address and once again makes a wish under the chimes. No one is particularly embarrassed by this double meeting of the New Year.

The region was once run by a governor who lived in Moscow and was known for his passion for expensive watches and private jets. In order not to move the clock back and forth, constantly flying from Samara to his family in Moscow and back, he came up with the idea to move the hands one hour forward and equal the time with the capital. In addition to the identity of the TV program, there were no other advantages. It got dark earlier, electricity costs increased, winters became more difficult to perceive. And also for everyone who works in companies with head offices in Moscow, the temporary advantage of one hour has evaporated: "We already have eleven, and they only have ten in the morning." So the time difference does not entail any tangible advantages or disadvantages, except perhaps confusion with Russian Railways. Trains run strictly "in Moscow".

Alena Petrauskaite, Kaliningrad. MSK-1.

It was always an hour less in Kaliningrad than in Moscow, for as long as I can remember. This did not create any serious inconvenience. Only in childhood, parents immediately explained that when you see the announcements of TV programs, you need to take away one, and then you will watch your favorite cartoons on time. Friends from big Russia, with whom we still communicated in paper letters, were even a little jealous: we could see movies and the first horror films, because it was just that hour. And if they were not allowed to watch what began in the capital at 00:00, then we have only 23 on the clock and this gave a chance to start watching, and then persuade them - let me know how it ended up. Even when the clock was set, it was convenient to navigate on TV: if the time coincides with the broadcast, then you need to move the hands back. But this is before the advent of the Internet, of course.

New Year has always been celebrated twice, and this also seems to be something natural, simply because it has always been that way. First, we listen to the president at 11:00 pm with glasses of champagne, and then we do not disagree for another hour and wait for the address of our governor. Many Kaliningraders, when they leave for New Year's holidays, still count two New Years - in Moscow and local time.

Probably, the capital holiday is still more important: it is the first and takes place earlier, and is common for the whole country, from which we are separated by borders.

Everyone is in a hurry and getting ready to address the president, but they have already gathered to the local one and are waiting for "when will we clink glasses again and shout Happy New Year." It's also great that you can, for example, celebrate a holiday in Moscow with your parents or one company, and catch the Kaliningrad chimes (we have a clock on the Cathedral - one of the symbols of the city) to take a taxi to another part of the city. In fact, it is difficult for me to judge whether this time difference can interfere or not interfere, because in Kaliningrad they are born and live with it. And they really like to tell visitors about our two New Years (some are surprised and amused). Perhaps, if we decided to change the time zone, then immediately there would be many opponents and supporters of the translation of the arrows, but I think that this is unlikely to happen. Two New Years are better than one.
